Overview:

 

Operative dentistry is branch of dentistry which incorporates the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of defects of teeth with restoration of proper tooth form, function, and aesthetics which will enhance the general health and welfare of the patient.

The department has a contemporary design with modern dental units and a radiographic room, and is provided with the latest dental materials; instruments and equipments. Comprehensive dental treatment for all patients ensures a regular flow of dental cases for clinical training, skills development and research requirements during the clinical phase for the undergraduate program.

The Department have dedicated and experienced faculty, all of whom are committed to excellence in education, patient care, scholarly activity, research, conducting continuing professional development programmes to including hands-on courses.

 

AIM

 

The department aims at maintaining the highest of standards in education, patient care as well as research activities in the fields of operative dentistry and endodontics.

 

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

 

The Conservative Dentistry programme is designed to train dental students with clinical skills and ability to make independent clinical decisions which is essential to become competent dental practitioners.

Students finish Phase l (2 years) at MMMC Campus, Manipal for pre-clinical training. During the two-year phase I students are introduced to basics of dental materials, preclinical course including cavity preparations, practising simple restorative procedures in the phantom head where they develop their psychomotor skills and learn to manipulate restorative materials

PHASE II , in Year 3, MMMC Campus,Melaka ,Malaysia students have  practical exercises where they learn to do comprehensive preclinical exercise ,cavity preparations and root canal treatment. Students perform exercises on extracted teeth to develop confidence before they work on patients. Then preclinical students are required to do restorative treatment and root canal treatment in phases in Yrs 3, Yrs 4, Yrs 5 B.D.S to develop clinical competence to become safe and effective dental practitioners.
